  1. Photographs and Flowers

From the recording Photographs and Flowers

Lyrics

We came in on the north side of the town
Right past your old elementary school
One by one, the stores were shutting down
As if failure had become the golden rule

The mines down the river are still open
But there ain't been a new job in a year
The boys meet at the restaurant every morning
and bitch about how bad things are round here.

But the flower shop is always in business
and no one puts their cameras away
there's always a place for photographs and flowers
in the middle of our darkest days

Last week Samantha had a baby
The same night old man Skinner passed away
they both had their picture in the paper
Baby and the grave met their first bouquet

Yeah the flower shop is always in business...

Little Joey just got our of prison
in time to take his 4th bride down the aisle
wedding party carried pink carnations
camera's captured everybody's smile

At the diner there's a snapshot on the wall
of the flood that hit in 1935
The town planted roses by the river
To remember the folks who lost their lives

so the flower shop is always in business
and no one puts their cameras away
there's always a place for photographs and flowers
in the middle of our darkest days.
