From the recording Church Soup
Lyrics
Another Sunday morning, time to go to church
Didn’t know where to go so I began to search
Got out the yellow pages, let my fingers walk around
Between Chinese food and cinemas this is at what I found
Church of God, church of Christ, Church of God in Christ
Used to be one church but now it’s chopped and diced
Apostolic Messianic charismatic Catholics
Pentecostal, Methodist. Seventh Day Adventist
Slightly stuffy Lutherans Frozen Presbyterians
Very proper Anglicans, laid back Unitarians
Don’t know much bout Wesleyan But you know the Mormons
can.. sing.
Missionary Alliance, Christian and religious science,
Brethren, Bahai, Science of the mind,
Baptists of a thousand kinds
New Life, New Birth, New Zion, Kingdom Earth
New Home, Born Again, Holy New Jerusalem
Greek and Roman Orthodox, Fields of faith, holy flocks
Grace and Truth Community, Greater Hope Trinity
Free will Divinity, Light Over Calvary, almost too much for me
Living Fountain, Living Word, Have you Seen Have you heard
Abundant Holy House of God, House of Prayer Shepherd’s Rod
Jehovah Evangelical, Peace, Metaphysical, Joyful Episcopal
Free Will Tabernacle
Nazarene, Mennonite, everybody’s seen the light
Who is wrong, who is right? How long are we gonna fight?
Rebels of the Resurrection, looking for a new direction
We all have our imperfections - No one is above inspection
Gotta make a coarse correction bigger than the next election
Paranormal, Purified, Full Gospel, certified, Justified, unified you decide the heavens cried No wonder He was crucified
Non-denominational blessed congregational
Covenant Emmanuel sounds so good but hard to tell
Eternal Life Victory, Holy Harvest Harmony Lighthouse, Liberty, Antioch, Bethany,
Spirit of the Risen Lord. Sanctuary, Sacred Word
St Luke and other names: Mark & Mary, John and James
Philip, Frances, Peter Paul when you thought you heard it all
Pentecostal Holiness, Sweet Jehovah, Sacred Bliss
Solid Rock Open book come and take another look
Cross Roads, Cornerstone, Born Again, Happy Home
Independent mega church, Leave the others in the lurch
I don’t know which is worse, being last or being first
Too much faith or not enough? I don’t really get this stuff
All I’m really trying to say is we all have a role to play
And it don’t matter where you pray Lamb of God is here today, not a million miles away You know the price He had to pay; whose church is it anyway
Not a whole lot more to say. Will you go or will you stay?
And if you go is it for show or do you go because you know what it’s all about
I'm still trying to work it out-
Love and hope and faith and doubt
Fear and mercy, sin and grace
Don't tell me it's about the place
No chapel for the chosen few,
No hundred thousand dollar pew
No silver cup for me and you
And him and her and them and us.
Ain’t no need to make a fuss.
Ain’t no need for marble floors or colored glass or heavy doors
I don’t think God cares that much about folks with a Midas touch
Ain’t no need for silk and gold too many left out in the cold
And you know I’m not talking out the weather...
So find a field and sing a song somewhere we can all belong
Don’t worry bout who’s right and wrong If the Spirit makes us strong can’t we all just get along?
I’m all about diversity- It’s true in every family what works for you might not for me but really, can we just agree
That life is hard and God is good And Jesus showed us that we could live in peace with one another
I’m not stranger, I’m your brother Yeah, we were told to love each other. I wonder what would happen if we did.
