Seventy minutes of humorous sketches and encouraging musical reflections on the challenges of ministry
This CD is dedicated to the memory of David M. Bailey, courageous troubadour of hope and faith who battled a malignant brain tumor for 14 years and finally came to rest on October 2, 2010. In life, david signed his name in lower case. We are now capitalizing David’s name in honor of a life well lived. From the time he was diagnosed in 1996, he ceaselessly wrote, sang, and spoke his faith in 23 albums, in 45 states and 5 countries, including the US, Canada, UK, Denmark & Sweden. He always did it with a sense of humor. The CD is also in honor of David’s family, Leslie, Kelcey, and Cameron who supported David in his journey.
David and Steve met at a Presbytery Pastoral Care Network (PPCN) conference and produced their first joint CD, A Deep Well for the Pastor, as a resource in PPCN’s work of caring for clergy. More information is available at www.pastoralcarenetwork.org.
David and Steve had talked about an album of humor as a second project. Bryan McFarland, independent folk-musician and hunger action advocate for Salem Presbytery, has joined Steve to complete this project using both his and David’s songs to enlarge the experience. Bryan released a new album, Until All Are Fed, with a portion of proceeds going to the Presbyterian Hunger Program. Details at www.untilallarefed.net
“Ministry takes many forms. Some, like David and Bryan spread good news through music. Being able to sing is definitely not one of my gifts, but I have found the ability to laugh and at times help others to laugh. I have been able to serve churches for over forty years. Whatever the form of ministry, those who serve with passion experience a lot of pain – sometimes personally and often by receiving the pain of others. Laughter and music have been two of the gifts that help sustain people as they share in the pain of life. David, Bryan, and I all share a concern for the life of those who serve in ministry. We liked the idea of reaching out to them through music and laughter. Draw deeply from this well and know that you are part of something greater than yourself.” ~Stephen McCutchan
